Underachievers are coming to Paradise Rock Club on October 21st

[Kyle Lui & Liam Knox]Coming to the Paradise Rock Club on October 21st, expect the Underachievers to bring their signature psychedelic flow of grooving melodies and introspective lyrics that force you both to dance and think. Led by two captivating maestros occupying the stage with the fierce force of men whose dreams grew out of poverty this rap duo’s talent is not just a gift; it is their only opportunity. The Underachievers are part of the Flatbush-based Beast Coast rap movement, led by such acts as Joey Bada$$ and the Flatbush Zombies, so if you’re a fan of either, do yourself a favor and check out the up-and-coming duo of AK and Issa Gold (fun fact: Gold lived down the hall from Juice of the Zombies while they were growing up). They were discovered by prolific hip-hop producer Flying Lotus (who worked on Kendrick Lamar’s “To Pimp a Butterfly”) and signed to his record label in 2012. Since then, they’ve released four full-length albums, of varying quality—while their second album, Inidogism, was greeted with critical and listener praise, their third was seen as drugged-up and underproduced. Their latest album Evermore: The Art of Duality, released just last month, is their most ambitious and professional yet, without losing their touch of psychedelic experimentation that separates them from their contemporaries. Expect to hear masterpieces like “Rain Dance” and “Generation Z” at the concert. If you’re into experimental hip-hop, thoughtful yet moving production, and lively performers, you should check out AK and Gold at the Paradise Rock Club on the 21st. No need to drop any acid—the music alone will transport you.
