LANY return to the Sinclair May 17th

Only two months after passing through Boston to open for Troye Sivan, alternative rockers LANY (pronounced lay-knee) are scheduled to headline a show at the Sinclair. If the enthusiastic turnout for their opening set at House of Blues is any indicator, the band has been rapidly building a fan-base. What is contributing to their success?2016-02-29-LANY-18530Combining elements of rock, synth-pop, R&B, and electronica into their sound, LANY have managed to make genre crossovers that give them a multigenerational appeal. With FM synth riffs reminiscent of the 80s, LANY even got the sulking parent section of House of Blues dancing.Perhaps the most important feature contributing to LANY’s success, however, is their ability to write songs that are upbeat without being saccharine. For a band that is so young, they already look so at home on stage. “It’s so easy to get jaded and worn out [on tour], and we don’t want to be that,” said LANY’s singer Paul Klein to a cheering audience.2016-02-29-LANY-18630Seeing their short but sweet opening set left me longing to see them play a show that is extensive enough to let them traverse a broader spectrum of musical content. On May 17th, we’ll get just that.[soundcloud url="https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/156783113" params="color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false" width="100%" height="166" iframe="true" /]
