PREVIEW: ANDERSON .PAAK AT ORPHEUM THEATRE ON 02/23
California native Anderson .Paak is known for producing funky, energetic, yet soulful music. On his third LP, Oxnard, Paak’s managed to maintain his unconventional jazz-funk sound while adding a more lively twist. Oxnard’s combination of compelling lyrics, daring collaborations, and unique sounds make this Anderson .Paak’s most ambitious record yet. The album is both a tribute to his roots in Oxnard, California, and a promising new direction for the artist. It serves to show Anderson .Paak’s versatility as a musician, allowing him to show off both his skills as a vocalist and as a lyricist.Oxnard is only his third record under the name Anderson .Paak, but the artist has had many other musical endeavors. Despite Anderson .Paak’s commercial success, the alias doesn’t even begin to cover Brandon Paak Anderson’s extensive musical prowess. His work with Dr. Dre on his 2015 record Compton made him a well-respected artist within the music industry. His other notable projects include an EP under the alias Breezy Lovejoy, and collaborating with producer Knxwledge to release the album Yes Lawd! under the name NxWorries.
Brandon Paak Anderson’s many acts in the music industry allowed him to develop as an artist, and set him up for success with his newest and most bold act yet, Anderson .Paak. He released his debut album as Anderson .Paak, Venice, in 2014. His sophomore album, Malibu, released in 2016, earned him two Grammy nominations for Best New Artist and Best Urban Contemporary Album. Oxnard, released in 2018, has proved to be Anderson .Paak’s most daring work to date. 2018 was a very successful year for the artist, with Oxnard reaching #11 on the Billboard Top 200 chart. His recent Grammy win for Best Rap Performance for the single “Bubblin” is also a promising start to 2019 for the artist. Anderson .Paak’s recent releases have put him on the forefront of the music scene - and we can’t wait to see what he has in store for us this year.
